Brunch at West in Bricktown

February 7, 2016

Last year, before I even started my food blog, I posted on Facebook asking my friends what the best brunch in Oklahoma City was. A friend replied, “West. No competition.” And then, I made plans to go elsewhere that weekend, and then a year later I realized I still hadn’t been! Luckily, with a new Bricktown location that’s even closer to my house, and a 70 degree Sunday in January (perfect patio weather!) I had no excuse to put off my visit any longer.

West took over the old Nonna’s building at the corner of Sheridan and Mickey Mantle a few months ago. For brunch, we were directed to the top floor of the building, up a beautiful flight of stairs.

Of course, with it being brunch, I had to start off with a mimosa. Worth noting, they’re $6. So if you’re the $2 mimosa power brunching type, this might not be your place. They are decent sized, though.

We started off with their hummus and dips. Weird as this may sound – it was probably my favorite part of the whole brunch. Their pita bread is seriously off the charts delicious. It comes with a couple different kinds of veggies and two giant servings of hummus and red pepper spread. Really delicious.

My dad got the Vegetarian Benedict. Instead of ham, the English is topped with spinach and a sliced tomato, then hollandaise. It also comes with grits or breakfast potatoes. Are there people out there that would choose grits over breakfast potatoes? If so, I don’t know them. My dad’s pretty into Benedicts, and he liked this one a lot. The only negative comment was that the English muffin really needed to be toasted more than it was. It did get a little soggy.

My mom got the French Toast, which is not your typical brioche dipped in egg served with syrup. The bread was more like…a croissant? That’s a guess. It wasn’t dense like typical French toast bread. It came topped with a vanilla anglaise (fancy for glaze) and orange zested raspberries. If you like sweet items for brunch, get this. The glaze is incredible. I’d recommend a side of bacon or sausage with this. The portion isn’t very big, and you’ll need something savory to balance out the sweetness.

I opted for the breakfast tacos, which are scrambled eggs, bacon, and cheese served over flour tortillas, served with guacamole, salsa verde, and potatoes. First off, this portion is massive. I only ate two out of the three tacos. So this is a bargain at just $12. I also swapped out the mozzarella listed on the menu for cheddar. Something about cheddar and eggs just goes better together. The sauces were delicious, and the scrambled eggs fluffy.

Altogether, brunch for 3 people, with a mimosa and appetizer came to just $50. You’ll leave full, get to enjoy a beautiful view of the city, and enjoy wonderful hospitality (our server Sarah was wonderful and attentive.) If you’re searching for a new brunch spot in downtown Oklahoma City, give West a try. I’ll definitely be coming back for dinner, next!
