Truck Yard – Dallas, Texas

March 4, 2016

There’s few things I love in the world more than food trucks. I’m always up for attending any event with food trucks, food truck festivals, and food truck yards. I found my new favorite spot to try food on wheels during my recent visit to Dallas – creatively named Truck Yard.

It’s located in Lower Greenville, a hip neighborhood in North East Dallas that reminds me a lot of the Plaza District in Oklahoma City. Truck Yard is conveniently located across the street from a Trader Joe’s, so if you’re a discount wino like me, you can stock up.

Truck Yard is marked by Motor Sisters Ice Cream at the front (More on that later – I’ll save dessert for last.) When you walk in the side entrance, you’re transported to some cross between your grandpa’s tool shed and a hipster paradise.

There’s metal scraps all over the wall to your right, Texas murals on your left, and lights strung above you. As you enter the Truck Yard, you’ll see all kinds of people (and DOGS!) around – families with kids, older couples, and groups of twenty somethings.  There’s a full bar inside the building to the left, so get yourself a frozen drink or a beer on tap and find a seat. On a beautiful day, I can’t think of a better place to spend your afternoon.

The trucks vary from day to day. The day I visited, there was a Greek truck and Chez Flo, a French crepes and sandwich truck that’s known for their garlic parm fries AKA magical words to my ears. We placed our order, got a buzzer to let us know when our order was ready, and grabbed a beer and a seat.

Jamie got a chicken, brie, and sun dried tomato baguette with chipotle mayo and garlic parm fries.

I got a Croque Monsieur with fries as well. Both sandwiches were hot, cheesy, and just the right amount of greasy.

And those fries – OH, those fries. They are heavenly. Don’t make a trip to this truck without them.

Now, how could this place get any better? Back to that ice cream I mentioned earlier. Motor Sisters dishes up soft serve cones, shakes, and sundaes with glorious toppings.

I was one happy food blogger.

I got the Amelia Earhart – Nutella shell, peanuts, and crushed pretzels.

Jamie got the Sojourner – oreos, brownie bits, and caramel sauce.

The wind managed to blow a bit of my cone on my lap – yay Nutella on a white shirt! But besides that little incident, this ice cream wrapped up a wonderful meal in Lower Greenville. Bring your friends and head out to Truck Yard next time you’re in Dallas. You can try some local food trucks, get a reasonably priced beer, and enjoy some primo people watching. What could be better than that?
