5 Places to Eat in OKC on Valentine’s Day (or any Date!)

January 30, 2016

So you wanna treat your beau to a nice dinner out, huh? You’re a good partner. Now comes the tough decision – where to eat? Valentine’s Day is one night of the year you can’t pull off the ol’ day of debate of what sounds good for dinner that night. Do yourself a favor and plan ahead. Here’s a list of my top 5 restaurants in Oklahoma City for Valentine’s Day, or an anniversary, birthday, or any other occasion you want to splurge a little.

1. Cheever’s

Best for: The couple that wants a nice, comforting meal, with a menu full of items they can actually pronounce.

Ah, Cheevers. It’s simple, elevated comfort food at its absolute best in Oklahoma City. They’re known all across the state for their incredible (and massive – seriously, it’s the size of your head) chicken fried steak, but their menu is packed with so many other little treats, too. And they have a great cocktail list to boot.

The interior is quaint and buzzy. It veers just on the edge of crowded, but due to its homey feel, the small space doesn’t give you a headache.cheevers-interiorIt will be hard to settle on one appetizer because seriously, they’re all going to sound incredible to you. (If you’re like me, get two!) I’d recommend the Bleu Cheese Potato Chips, stacked high with bacon and green onion pesto.DSC00570And I’d also get Juan’s Queso Chihuahua, a layered southwest dip topped with avocado and served with chips. Obviously, I have a thing for chips and cheese.DSC00572One of my favorite menu items is their American Wagyu Skirt Steak, which comes topped with a bold chimichurri and served over to die for sweet potato enchiladas.cheevers-steakAnd okay, okay, one of you should probably get the chicken fried steak if you haven’t been in before. You’ll likely be set on lunch the next day too. It can easily serve two people.

Whatever you get for your main, get a pecan ball for dessert. I could tell you why, but I’ll show you instead.cheevers-pecan-ballGive me just a minute to mop up the drool that an image of this perfect dessert specimen can cause.

2. Broadway 10 Bar and Chophouse

Best for: The couple who wants to totally spoil themselves on Valentine’s Day (and isn’t afraid of a big bill.) Also great for wine lovers.

If you want to bust out your finest suit or that perfect dress and really go all out for Valentine’s Day, then Broadway 10 is your kinda place. It’s bright, open, and has a very big city feel to it. It is the most expensive place on this list, but you’ll get stellar service and top-notch food to go along with it. You deserve it, right?

They have a massive bottled wine list, and a decent by the glass selection as well. You’ll be sure to find that perfect red to go along with your steak.broadway-10-wineNow, about that steak. It’s good, no, it’s great here. All of their steaks (or Primal Cuts, as they’re called here) are aged for 28 days so they’re super flavorful and juicy. They have some killer sauce options to go along with them, too. I’m a huge Béarnaise fan, but they have a handful of other choices I’m sure are just as great.broadway-10-steakWe also tried the New Zealand Rack of Lamb, which comes with a blackberry glaze – unexpected, but delicious.lamb-broadway-10And no matter what you pick for your main, get the smoked gouda mash for your side. It’s killer.

3. Ludivine

Best for: The adventurous couple who isn’t afraid to try new things.

I recently posted about my love affair with Ludivine, so I’ll keep this brief. If you’re a big time foodie who is looking for something a little more out there than your standard steak, take your date to Ludivine.

Their cocktails are incredible, inspired, and fresh.ludivine-cocktailAnd the food is unexpected, so you have to be able to try new things and get out of your food comfort zone a bit. Trust me, you won’t regret it.wagyu-beef-ludivinebone-marrow-ludivine-2Get the bone marrow, try something you can’t even pronounce, and soak in the wonderful atmosphere of this totally unique restaurant.

P.S. Valentine’s Day falls on a Sunday this year. You know what that means? You can now have a Valentine’s Day (or Galentine’s Day) brunch! Here are two spots to try if you’re looking for pancakes or benedicts instead of a steak.

4. Kitchen no. 324

5. Flint

Best for: Anyone looking to include a stay-cation in their Valentine’s Day plans. Seriously, the Colcord Hotel is amazing.

If you want to do a little Valentine’s Day wandering around the Myriad Gardens, or if you want to plan a romantic stay at the Colcord, round off your Sunday with brunch at Flint. They often have live music playing inside, and their simple, but classic, brunch menu is excellent.

If you’re looking for something sweet, I recommend the Berry Compote French Toast.flint-okc-french-toastFor savory, the BLT can’t be beat.flint-okc-bltAnd mimosas, because brunch.flint-okc-mimosa
